Midgard Serpent Carved Drinking Horn
Taking our carved horns to the next level with this horn depicting the Midgard Serpant, Jormungand. A carving that melts into knotwork and dabbled accents, this horn has been skilfully and carefully carved. According to Norse mythology the God Odin threw the sea serpent into the ocean. The serpent grew so large that it was able to surround the earth and grasp its own tail. During Ragnarök the beast causes a deluge resulting in submersion of the world. Afterward, a new world resurfaces.
This beautiful horn, ranges in colouring from white with accents of grays and white to a black tip carved into the figure of a raven..
The serpent unwinds into the horn presenting a tapestry inspired by archaeological finds of the Viking age culminating in the tip of the horn which has been carved into a raven. The raven is a common iconic figure in Norse mythology. The highest god Odin had two ravens named Huginn and Muninn ("thought" and "memory" respectively) who flew around the world bringing back tidings to their master. Therefore, one of Odin's many names was the "ravengod" (Hrafnaguð).
The top of the horn also presents a band of runes. The Elder Futhark runes are split into three aettir. Each is a subset of the runes that is associated with a different god and each of the runes have a different meaning or significance.
You'll receive the horn in the images. Each carved horn is unique and is individually photographed. You won't receive a similar horn carved in the same way, you'll be receiving the one you see in the images.
