Sterling Silver Hiddensee Thor's Hammer
This pendant is based on a Viking Age find from York and it is very similar to a number of pendants from the Hiddensee treasure. Found in 1873 on the Hiddensee island, the collection consisting of 16 pendants, a brooch and a neck ring, is the largest discovery of gold Viking artifacts in Germany.
It dates from the late Viking Age, c. 10th century. The pendants include both pagan and Christian symbols - Thor's Hammer and the cross - reflecting the mixing of the two cultures. It is believed that the jewelry may have originally belonged to the family of the Danish King Harald. Bluetooth
